1) Union government launched Jal Kranti Abhiyan:
--> Union minister for water resources Uma Bharti on 5 June 2015 launched a Jal Kranti Abhiyan aimed at turning one water stressed village in each district of the country into a water surplus village.
--> Under the campaign a village with acute water scarcity will be selected as 'Jal Gram' on a pilot project.
--> For the identified village a comprehensive integrated development plan will be framed and several water conservation activities will be launched.
--> The Jal Kranti Abhiyan will be celebrated across the country during 2015-16 to consolidate water conservation and management through a holistic and integrated approach.

2) Ameenah Gurib-Fakim sworn-in as first woman president of Mauritius:
--> Prominent scientist Ameenah Gurib-Fakim was sworn in as President of Mauritius on 5 June 2015.
--> She thus became the first women to hold the ceremonial position in the Indian Ocean island nation.
--> Gurib-Fakim, 56, is the first female president of the island, which gained independence from Britain in 1968 and replaced Britain's Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state in 1992.
--> She is internationally renowned biodiversity scientist and biologist.
--> Mauritius is one of the richest -- and least corrupt -- countries in Africa, a middle-income nation of some 1.3 million people with a per capita GDP of just over US $9,000 (7,200 euros).

3) World Environment Day celebrated across globe:
--> World Environment Day (WED) was observed globally on 5 June 2015
--> The theme for World Environment Day 2015 is "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care".
--> The host country for the WED 2015 is Italy and the celebrations will be organized by Expo Milano 2015 that will run from 1 May to 31 October 2015 and will see the participation of 140 plus countries.

4) R Seshasayee appointed non-executive chairman of Infosys:
--> Infosys on 5 June 2015 named R Seshasayee,as its non-executive chairman.
--> He will replace KV Kamath, who has stepped down to take over as president of the newly created BRICS bank.
--> R Seshasayee is presently vice chairman at truck and bus maker Ashok Leyland and Chairman of IndusInd Bank.
--> Seshasayee is also currently a member of Infosys' nominations committee that also includes Lehman, Mazumdar-Shaw and Carol M Browner.

5) India’s first green police station inaugurated at New Delhi:
--> India’s first green police station was inaugurated on the occasion of World Environment Day at Maurice Nagar in North Delhi.
--> It was inaugurated by Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi.
--> The police station has various provisions for preservation and safety of the environment.

6) US doctors performed world's first skull-scalp transplant:
--> In a major breakthrough in transplant surgery, US doctors have successfully performed the world's first skull-scalp transplant on a 55-year-old man who suffered a large head wound from cancer treatment.
--> Doctors at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre and Houston Methodist Hospital announced on 5 June 2015 that they performed the 15-hour operation on May 22.
