1) Indian scientist Kamal Bawa elected fellow of Royal Society:
--> Noted Indian conservation biologist Kamal Bawa will be formally admitted to the prestigious Royal Society as a fellow on July 10 for his "pioneering contributions to understanding the population biology of tropical forest trees".
--> India-born Bawa, an internationally recognised evolutionary ecologist and a distinguished professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, was elected a fellow of the London-based society in April, according to a university media release.
--> Bawa joins former and current fellows such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and about 80 Nobel laureates.

2) Controversial Meiji sites in Japan get world heritage status:
--> Japan’s Meiji-era (1868-1912) industrial revolution sites have received World Cultural Heritage status from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
--> Decision in this regard was taken during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee chaired by Maria Bohmer in Bonn, Germany.
--> With this inclusion, the total Cultural sites with UNESCO World Heritage Status in Japan have increased to 15 along with 4 natural sites.
--> The site was controversial as Korean forced labourers were used before and during the Second World War for its construction.

3) Aseel Shaheen is first Arab woman to officiate at Wimbledon:
--> There are 350 personnel officiating this year at Wimbledon, but one of them catches attention instantaneously.
--> She's Aseel Shaheen – the first Arab woman to be appointed as an official for the prestigious Grand Slam.
--> Every year, the All England Club in London invites 60 overseas officials, and the 41-year-old Shaheen is one of them but the only one to create history.

4) Brazil unveiled Rio 2016 Olympic flame:
--> Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has vowed Rio 2016 will be a "historic" event after unveiling the Olympic torch.
--> The torch relay will begin at the Games' birthplace in Olympia, Greece, before embarking on its tour of Brazil in May 2016.

5) Fiji defeated Micronesia 38-0 in Pacific Games football match:
--> Fiji broke the record for the biggest win in international football with a 38-0 victory on 5 July 2015 over the Federated States of Micronesia.
--> Organizers said the result broke the 2001 record when Australia beat American Samoa 31-0 in an Oceania confederation qualifier for the 2002 World Cup.

6) Australia defeated Belgium 1-0 to win Hockey World League Semi-Final:
--> World Champions Australia defeated Belgium by 1-0 in the finals of the Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final tournament.
--> Thus Australia claimed gold medal while hosts Belgium got the silver medal in the tournament.
--> HWL Semi-final was hosted at the KHC Dragons Stadium in Antwerp (Belgium).
--> The tournament’s final will be played in Mohali (India) during December 2015.

--> India finished fourth in the tournament.
