1) Floyd Mayweather Jr won World Welterweight title of Boxing:
--> American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has won the unified World Welterweight title of World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association.
--> Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao from Philippines on a unanimous decision with Judges Scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in 12 rounds of intense boxing.
--> The legendary bout termed as ‘Fight of the Century’ was played at iconic MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

2) Chelsea claim English Premier League title 2015:
--> Chelsea won their first Premier League title for five years as Jose Mourinho's side produced a typically stubborn display to grind out a 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace at a jubilant Stamford Bridge on 3 May 2015.
--> Chelsea have 83 points from 35 games and now cannot be surpassed by closest rivals Manchester City.

3) National Film Awards presented by President:
--> President Pranab Mukherjee presented the 62nd National Film Awards on 3 May 2015 at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi.
--> Shashi Kapoor, honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke award this year, couldn’t attend and the veteran actor will be feted in Mumbai soon.
--> With 45 awards in the feature film category and a total of 21 awards in the non-feature film category, the award ceremony was attended by talents from Bollywood along with regional film industries Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Assamese.
-->  I&B minister Arun Jaitley, Rajyavardhan Rathore and I&B secretary Bimal Julka were present.

4) Mumbai-Ernakulam Duronto Express derailed in Goa:
--> Ten coaches of the Train no. 12223 LTT-Ernakulam Duronto Express derailed at the Salzora tunnel near Balli in south Goa on 3 May 2015 morning disrupting the traffic on the Konkan Railway route.
--> No injuries were reported.

5) Aditya Birla Group consolidates apparel business into one entity:
--> In a major restructuring exercise, Aditya Birla Group on 3 May 2015 announced merger of all its branded apparel businesses into one entity, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd, through an all-share deal.
--> The new entity will have a combined turnover of Rs 5,290 crore and a retail network of 1,869 exclusive stores, becoming the largest pure play fashion company in the country.
--> Under the scheme of arrangement, the apparel businesses of group holding company Aditya Birla Nuvo and of another group firm Madura Garments Lifestyle Retail Ltd would be demerged into listed firm Pantaloons Fashion & Retail Ltd (PFRL).

6) World Press Freedom Day 2015 observed:
--> World Press Freedom Day is observed on 3 May every year across the world.
--> The theme of 2015 is: Let Journalism Thrive! Towards better reporting, gender equality and media safety in the digital age.
--> In December 1993, World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

7) Ruth Rendell, crime writer, died:
--> Ruth Rendell, one of Britain’s best-loved authors, who delighted fans for decades with her dark, intricately plotted crime novels, has died at the age of 85.
--> She was best-known for creation of fictional character Inspector Wexford, which was turned into a highly successful TV series in Britain.

8) Nepal quake damaged world’s oldest Buddhist shrine:
--> Swayambhunath Stupa, believed to be the world’s oldest Buddhist shrine, has been partially damaged by Nepal’s devastating April 25 earthquake that has killed over 7,000 people.
--> Several monuments situated in the vicinity of the 2,000 year-old Lichchhavi-era Buddhist shrine situated on top of a hill in western Kathmandu have been damaged, though the main stupa has remained intact during the 7.9-magnitude earthquake.

9) Mazen Darwish honoured with 2015 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2015:
--> Syrian journalist and rights activist Mazen Darwish was honoured with UNESCO-Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2015.

--> He was bestowed with this award by the UN’s Cultural body for recognition of his work carried out in Syria for more than 10 years.
