1) KV Kamath appointed BRICS bank president:
--> Banker KV Kamath was appointed on 11 May 2015 as the head of the New Development Bank, also called BRICS Bank that was set up by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa last year.
--> Kamath will have a five year term of the bank, which is likely to be operationalised within one year, Finance Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said.
--> Kamath is at present the Chairman of the India's largest private sector bank ICICI 
--> Kamath, 67, would serve first five-year term as the bank’s head, followed by a Brazilian and then a Russian.
--> BRICS Bank will have its headquarters in Shanghai.

2) Justice Cyriac Joseph appointed NHRC acting chief:
--> National Human Rights Commission Member Justice Cyriac Joseph was on 11 May 2015 authorised to act as the Chairperson of the Commission until the appointment of a new Chairperson.
--> Justice KG Balakrishnan completed his tenure as the sixth and longest serving Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission on 11 May 2015.
--> According to the orders issued by the President, Justice Joseph’s appointment will be effective from 13 May 2015.

3) National Technology Day observed:
--> The National Technology Day was observed in India on 11 May 2015.
--> Every year, National Technology Day is celebrated across India on 11 May to memorize the anniversary of Shakti, the Pokhran nuclear test held on 11 May 1998.

4) Karnataka high court acquitted Jayalalithaa in 19-year-old disproportionate assets case:
--> Jayalalithaa was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate assets case that came as a huge relief to the AIADMK chief that will enable her stage a political comeback and return to the Chief Minister's post.
--> The High Court observed that the prosecution could not prove that Jayalalithaa has disproportionate assets and that the defence showed satisfactory evidence proving the source of her income and the others as well.

5) PM inaugurated India's first private greenfield airport in West Bengal:
--> Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday became the first passenger to fly out of the Kazi Nazrul Islam airport in West Bengal's Andal, days before it begins commercial operations.
--> India's first private greenfield airport located in Durgapur-Andal region has been set up in collaboration with the Changi International Airport, Singapore.
--> It is likely to begin commercial operations from May 18.

6) Hollande becomes first French president to visit Cuba:
--> French President Francois Hollande has met Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro on a historic trip to Havana.
--> Hollande is the first French president to visit Cuba since 1898, and the first Western head of state on the island since its thaw with Washington.

7) India Post launched dedicated E-Commerce Centre in New Delhi:
--> Department of Posts on 11 May 2015 launched a dedicated E-Commerce Centre in New Delhi to cater the e-commerce business enterprises.
-->  It was launched by Union Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at Safdarjang, New Delhi.
--> This processing centre will exclusively handle all the e-commerce business.

8) Ravi Shankar Prasad launched India Post mobile app named 'PostInfo':
--> Telecom Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad has officially launched India Post’s first Android app named Post Info.
--> Highlighting the importance of the Internet based Digital Economy; Minister Prasad made it clear that India Post needs to become a major force in this domain.

9) Andy Murray defeated Rafael Nadal to win Madrid Masters final:
--> Andy Murray claimed his first victory over Rafael Nadal on clay to win the Madrid Masters on 10 May 2015.

10) Satish Reddy is the new chairman of National Safety Council:
--> Satish Reddy, the Chairman of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Safety Council (NSC).
--> Reddy takes over as the chairman from Venu Srinivasan, who steered the workings of the Council since July 2011.

--> NSC is the apex body set up by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on safety, health and environment at the national level.
