The five recognized Nuclear Powers (United States, Russia, China, Britain and France) signed a treaty to create a 'nuclear free zone' in 5 central Asian countries namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
- The deal prohibits production, purchase and placement of nuclear weapons on the above mentioned territories however, allowing peaceful use of nuclear energy.
- These five countries already have a Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free-Zone (CANWFZ) Treaty among them that says no to manufacturing, acquiring, testing, or possessing nuclear weapons. This will be the 5th nuclear-weapons-free zone in the world after the following four..
