SYMBOLIC/NUMBER ANALOGY/ALPHABET ANALOGY

NUMBER ANALOGY

In number analogy, numbers are given in pair or group and the candidate has to find the relationship between the numbers or group of numbers.

This can be of different types as follows;

1. total number of digits
2. even and odd numbers
3. cube and cube roots of digits
4. multiplication and division
5. square and square roots of digits
Eg: Q. 957 : 735 :: 833 : ?
Ans: the difference between 957 and 735 is 222

same relation apply in the next pair of numbers. So find 833- x= 222

so x= 611. Therefore last number is 611.

Hope you guys understand this simple method.

ALPHABET ANALOGY

The relationship between letters are of following types:

1. Increment or decrement in position of letters
2. Reverse order of position
3. vowel or consonant

Symbols for PA/SA Examination SSC CHSL 2015

Symbols and Notations

Symbols for these types of questions stand for mathematical operations like +, –, ×, ÷, > , <, ³, £, = and #. So, the students must replace the symbols by mathematical operations and apply the BODMAS’ rule to find the value of the given expression. Other symbols which can be used are DÑ, *, @, $, etc, with proper definitions. Some examples are given below
Example 1: If ‘+’ means ‘–’, ‘–’ means ‘×’, ‘×’ means ‘÷’, and ‘÷’ mean ‘+’ then 15 × 3 ÷ 15 + 5 – 2 = ?
  1. 0
  2. 10
  3. 20
  4. 6
  5. None of these
Solution. (2) 15 × 3 = 15 + 5 – 2
after changing the signs = 15 ÷ 3 + 15 – 5 × 2 = 5 + 15 – 10 =10
Example 2: If 2 * 3 = 12, 3 * 4 = 20 and 4 * 5 = 30, then 2 * 6 is
  1. 18
  2. 12
  3. 21
  4. 24
  5. None of these
Solution. (3) The numbers on both sides of * are increased by one and then multiplied to get the answer. 2*6 = 3 × 7 = 21
Example 3: If x $ y = (x + y + xy –1) (x + y + xy + 1), then the value of (4 $ 10) is
  1. 2915
  2. 2195
  3. 2951
  4. 2955
  5. None of these
Solution. (1) As per the definition of $, (4$10) would be (4 + 10 + 4 × 10 – 1) (4 + 10 + 4 × 10 + 1) = 2915. So, answer is (1)
Example 4: If * means “is greater than”, @ means `is less than’; and $ means “is equal to” and if a $ b and b @ c, then
  1. c * b
  2. b * c
  3. c * a
  4. Both 1 and 3
  5. None of these
Solution. (4) Replace the symbols with the meaning given against them. If a $ b and b @ c would become a = b and b < c, then c > b or c > a ie, c * b, c * a are true from the given options.

Geometrical Figures

These figures will be divided and subdivided into a number of parts, each part is filled with a number or a letter except one part. The numbers or the letters in the figures follow certain pattern. Which of the following means A is the Grandson of D ?

(1) A x C+D
(2) A +B+D
(3)D+B+A
(4) A-B-D

Explanation:
A x C+D means A is the mother of C and C is the father of D Grandchild of A
A+B+D means A is the father of B and B is the father of D. Hence D is the Grandchild of A
D+B+A means D is the father of B and B is the father of A. Here A is the Grand child of D, but we don’t know whether he is the Grandson or Granddaughter of D
A-B-D means A is the son of B and B is the son of D.  Hence, A is the Grandson of D
2. Mathematical Operations

What is the Selection Procedure for SSC Postal / Sorting assistant /Lower Division Clerk/Data Entry Operator Exam?

Staff Selection Commission offers various posts to apply and recruits manpower for various government departments. The selection procedure thus differs according to the posts in the overall examination pattern of the commission. SSC conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination for the post of Lower Division Clerk/Data Entry Operator every year. The candidates applying for the examination must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent from a recognized board or university. It is important for the candidates to know the selection procedure well before undergoing the examination for a particular post. Better idea about the selection procedure gives adequate chances to crack them.

Selection Process for SSC LDC/DEO Posts

Candidates who have opted for Lower Division Clerk/Data Entry Operator posts need to go through two fold recruitment process. They need to face written examination as well as skill test/typing test conducted by the commission. Those candidates qualifying the written examination with adequate cut off marks would move through to the next round where they would be called for skill test/typing test by the commission. More the candidates score in the written examination more their chances are to get through to the next round and getting a bit closer to the selection in the posts. Those candidates making the cut off in the written examination are called for the next round. In case there is more than one candidate who have scores equal aggregate marks in the written examination they would get selected based on either marks in first part of the selection process (written examination) or through alphabetical order in which first names of the candidates appear first.

Part I

The written examination consists of 4 papers namely General Intelligence &Reasoning, EnglishLanguage, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. Each of the paper carries 50 marks and the total time to solve the questions is set to be 2 hours. The questions are multiple choice ones and negative marking is there on each wrong answer.

Part II

Candidates qualifying the first part with required cut off marks need to appear for the part II of the selection process which is the skill test/typing test for the PA/SA/LDC/DEO posts.

Typing Test for LDC:

Those candidates applying for the Lower Division Clerk posts need to go through typing test after passing the written test. The candidates can choose either Hindi or English as their language for giving the typing test. The test would be taken on a computer and need to specify which language they are interested to give the typing test while filling the application form. Those candidates opting for English would have to achieve typing speed of 35 words per minute in order to qualify. Those who have chosen Hindi as the option need to achieve typing speed of 30 words per minute to qualify.

Skill Test for DEO:

For the Data Entry Operator posts under SSC examination the candidates who have qualified the written test would have to under skill test. The candidates need to maintain a data entry speed of 8000 key depressions on a computer per hour. The speed would be calculated only based on the correct/right spelled words typed in an hour by the candidates as per the given passage. Candidates would get a total of 15 minutes typing time in this examination. Printed matter for typing would be given to the candidates in advance so that they can type from seeing into the paper.
