Reasoning: Concepts and Sample Questions

Type 1
In order to solve questions pertaining to code based on English alphabet you must know the position of each letter from either end so that you can recognize the coding pattern quickly.

On the basis of these matrices you can recognize the coding pattern of letter quickly.
For instance, suppose the code for L is Q. it is clear that Q is to the right of L and position of L is 12th from left and that of Q is 17th from left.
Now, state what will be the code of E?
The code for E would be J.
E→ J10

A. Code consisting of jumbled letters of given word
In this type of coding pattern the letters of the given word are jumbled to generate the code.
B. Code Consisting of the preceding or following letter
In this type of questions, either preceding or following letters stands as code letter for each of the letter of the given word.
Example1. In a certain code language INACTIVE is written as VITCANIE. How will COMPUTER be written in that code language?
(A) UTEMPOCR
(B) MOCPETUR
(C) ETUPMOCR
(D) PMOCRETU
(E) None of these
Sol. (C):
(i) There are 8 letters in the word.
(ii) In the given code the fourth and eighth letters from left have been left intact.
(iii) The first letter exchanges positions with the seventh letter, the second letter with the sixth letter and the third letter with the fifth letter.
