Exam Pattern and Strategy to crack SSC CHSL Exam 2015

Every year SSC conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (+2 level) exam for the recruitment of Lower Divisional Clerks (LDC) and Data Entry Operators (DEO) for the clerical work of Central Government departments.

They are selected in various Departments of Central Government of India. SSC conducts this exam in three stages. The candidates are first tested by a two written tests to check their General Intelligence, Aptitude, English language and General Awareness and then a Skill Test taken to check their computer knowledge and  typing skills. 

The first written test is objective in nature and the second test is descriptive in nature.

It is well known fact that SSC exams syllabus is very vast especially Maths and GK section. To crack this competition exam you have to study the topics strategically and smartly otherwise you will not be able to complete the syllabus on time.

1. Maximum Marks: The written test is comprised of 4 topics Reasoning (General Intelligence), Maths (Quantitative Aptitude), English Language and General Awareness (GK). Each topic will have 50 questions. All will be Objective Type Questions (Multiple Choice Questions).

Each question carry 1 mark. There is no sectional cut-off like bank and insurance exams where you have to attain minimum cut-off marks. This simply means you don't have to worry how you've performed in any particular subject. You just have to attain minimum marks from the total that is 200 marks. 

2. Time: You will be given 2 hours (120 Minutes) to complete the test. It means not a single minute for a question. So yeah in competition exams speed plays an important role.

3. Negative Marking: And of-course there is a negative marking of 1/4 or 0.25 marks per wrong question at the first stage but there is not any negative marking at the second stage. 

4. Descriptive Test: The descriptive test is qualifying in nature means you just have to pass it. The marks of descriptive test is not taken into consideration at the time cut-off preparation. 

5. Typing Test: If you've cleared written test with the minimum cut-off marks you will be eligible for skill test. I want to clarify two things regarding skill test. 

First Thing: Skill Test includes Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) and Typing Test(TT). TT is the test of typing speed on computer and DEST is a test of how fast you can enter the data into the computer. There is no difference between both the tests. In both the tests you will be given a printed material to type into the computer with.

The only difference is the SPEED of typing test. If you've taken the marks upto or above the cut-off decided for Data Entry Operator then you will be called for 2 typing tests. One for DEO i.e. DEST and the other for LDC i.e. TT.

Now in case you've scored upto or more than cut-off decided for LDC then you will be called for TT for LDC only. It means you will not be called to take the test for DEO because you've not scored upto the cut-off decided for DEO.

If you have scored upto or more than cut-off decided for DEO then you will called for taking both the tests specified for LDC and DEO.

Second Thing: Because the minimum typing speed requirement of  DEO is 27 WPM (27 Words Per Minute) and the salary is more for DEO post, the cut-off will always be high for DEO.

• Time Table: Candidates have to make time table for Chsl Preparation. Time should be made as candidate’s ability.

3. Take Regular Breaks – It’s always better to give yourself a break after every hour or two, than cramming everything nonstop. Give your mind time to soak it all in
4. Take Time Out for Yourself – Constant studying makes your mind bored and unresponsive. So take time out to pamper yourself and let yourself unwind. A calm body and mind are the most receptive
5. Unwind – When you are on a timeout, unwind with a fun, creative activity! Simple things like cooking, painting, or even a walk in the park are good ways to let your hair down. You could even rock out to your favorite music.
6. Exercise – Take regular walks, go for runs or go gymming! Any kind of physical workout is a good break, for both your body and mind.
7. Set Targets – Set achievable targets for yourself, like studying 4 comprehensive topics in an hour, or 7-8 small topics in an hour. This will boost your speed as your mind will not feel over taxed.
8. Learn and Revise on the Go – Get your hands on a good book for your SSC preparations. This will let you touch up whenever you have the free time, or just feel the need
9. Use Flashcards – This is another great tool that will let you revise anytime, anywhere and with ease! Make flashcards of important dates, event and keywords to keep your memory fresh.
10. Get Ample Sleep – I cannot stress the importance of sleeping enough! Make sure you are well rested so that your body doesn’t decide to rest at a time you need it the most!

• Don’t Overburden Yourself: It is important not to overburden yourself while preparing hard for the examination. A healthy mind and body can become very important for your success and thus the candidates need to make their routine perfectly in tandem with the situation.
• Keep a stopwatch by your side: If you are still wondering how you would manage your time and solve all the 200 questions that you need to solve in the four hour time period, the only option you are left with is to keep a stopwatch by your side and practice regularly.
• Spot your weak areas: It is very easy to go along well with your strong areas, but it is the best time to work on your weaker areas and give it your best shot. Try and point out all the major areas you are stumbling and try to remove the blockings through constant practice and able guidance.

The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR SSC CHSL EXAM

Follow these steps:

1. Gather syllabus for the exam and plan accordingly. find your strong points and sharp them.
2. After the syllabus collect all the required study material.
3. Follow a routine (means you have to study daily)  don't follow a time table it will hard to follow just make sure you cover all the topics in due time.
4. 3-4 months approx are enough to prepare.
5. Try to make your own shortcuts.
6. Practice papers (the most important)you have to beat the time there and for this you should increase your speed.   I advise you to have some practice papers which is available easily on market.
7.  Don't focus on single subject only you have to prepare all of four subjects   try to study atleast two of them daily.
