1) Nation paid tributes to Ambedkar on his death anniversary: President Pranab Mukherjee, VP Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6 December 2014 paid rich tributes to the architect of the Constitution Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 58th death anniversary which is also being observed as "Mahaparinirvana Diwas". "On his Mahaparinirvana Diwas, I bow to the venerable Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. His contribution to the nation is eternal and invaluable," Modi tweeted. The Prime Minister, who paid floral tributes at Ambedkar's portrait in Parliament, said, "Dr Ambedkar was a man ahead of his time and we remember his efforts to eradicate social evils and the importance he gave to education."
2) India lose to Germany in Champions trophy starter: In the first match of the Champion's trophy, Indian men's were defeated by Germany 0-1. The Men's team has never won the Champions Trophy since its inaugural edition in 1978. Yet, the team is being seen as a side which has the best chance of staging upsets and emerging on top with triumphs. Germany on the other hand, have won the tournament on nine occasions. India goalkeeper Sreejesh is adjudged man of the match. India will play Argentina on Sunday evening and would look to take the many positives from this match. This year's Champions trophy is being player at Bhubaneswar, India.
3) Aussies to wear No 408 on their jerseys for the Adelaide Test: In a tribute to late Phillip Hughes, the Australian cricket team has decided to wear number 408, the Test debut number of the late batsman, under its national emblem during the first Test against India. Hughes, who passed away after being hit by a Sean Abbott bouncer in a domestic game, has become an international cricket hero and Michael Clarke and Co will seek to honour his memory. Usually, players have their own individual Test playing numbers embroidered on their shirts but on Tuesday, every Australian will wear Hughes’ Test cap number.
4) Consumers to soon get choice to select power distribution company: Piyush Goyal: Consumers will soon be able to choose their power supply company as the government is making necessary amendments to the Electricity Act to enable this provision which is aimed at encouraging greater competition in the distribution sector. Shifting focus from generation, the government plans to fix electricity distribution which is often described as the achilles heel of the power sector. Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said the provision allowing the end-user to choose its distribution company is in the works.
5) Lok Adalat settled 1.25 cr. cases in a day: The Second National Lok Adalat held across the country on Saturday amicably settled about 1.25 crore pending and pre-litigation cases and brought financial relief of over Rs. 3,000 crore to ordinary litigants in a single day. The Adalat held over the day and organised by the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA) has reduced backlog by about nine percent in all the States.
6) Punjab CM ordered probe into eye camp tragedy: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on 6 December 2014 ordered a high level probe into an NGO sponsored medical camp in Gurdaspur district in which 60 people lost their eyesight. Badal has asked Principal Secretary Health Vinnie Mahajan to personally conduct an inquiry into all the aspects of this unfortunate incident, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh.
