1) PM Modi launched Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana on the occasion of birth anniversary of Jai Prakash Narayan, as he had declared in his maiden Independence Day speech. Launching the ambitious scheme, Modi said that if nearly 800 MPs develop three village each by 2019, around 2500 villages will be covered. Modi said that he will alsoselect a village from his constituency Varanasi. Asking every MP to adopt a village and work for their development, Modi said: "Whichever party the MP belongs to, he or she has to keep working among people and spent lot of his time to get work done for the government." For the MP's elected from cities, the prime minister urged them to look at a village that is close to their city.


2) International Day of the Girl Child observed across the world: Third International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) was observed across the world on 11 October 2014. The theme was Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence. The theme of IDGC was selected in recognition of the importance of investing in and empowering girls during adolescence and preventing and eliminating the various forms of violence they experience. The United Nations adopted a resolution in 2011 and designated 11 October as International Day of the Girl Child for promoting the rights of girls and addressing the unique challenges they face.

3) Cyclone Hudhud to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh on Oct 12: Cyclone Hudhud would cross North Andhra Pradesh coast on October 12 and is expected to make landfall close to Visakhapatnam, according to Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) at Visakhapatnam. “It is forecast that Hudhud, which is already a severe cyclonic storm, will intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in next 12 hours. Hudhud is likely to make landfall on October 12 close to Visakhapatnam,” IMD’s (Hyderabad centre) assistant meteorologist M. Narasimha Rao said on Friday.


4) President Pranab Mukherjee to Visit Norway, Finland from October 12: In a rare Scandinavian visit by an Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee will embark on a two-nation six-day visit to Norway and Finland starting October 12. During his visit, President Mukherjee is scheduled to meet the Head of the State of Norway and Finland---King Harald V and Sauli Niinisto respectively. The President will also meet Prime Ministers of Norway and Finland--Erna Soltberg and Alexander Stubb respectively-- besides meeting important functionaries and addressing business seminars in the two countries. Mukherjee, who will be the first Indian President to visit Norway, will leave for Oslo on Sunday, officials said
